Possible Side Effects
Temporary discomfort after surgery may include a feeling of “tension” in the eyelid area, small bruises, and swelling. Patients may experience tearing and hypersensitivity to light during the first few weeks after surgery. Dryness, burning sensation, or itching in the eyes may occur rarely.
Possible complications
Temporary blurred vision or double vision, asymmetric healing, scar formation, and an understated position of the lower eyelid may occur, requiring repeated surgery. There is a risk of infection, bleeding, and swelling in the corners of the eyes. Patients may also experience dry eyes and temporary inability to close their eyes. Cases of irreversible vision loss are extremely rare.
Rehabilitation period
Patients can begin reading 2-3 days after surgery, and wearing contact lenses is allowed 2 weeks after surgery, with the surgeon’s permission after examination. Patients can resume work in 5-10 days. Alcohol consumption and strenuous exercise are prohibited for at least three weeks after surgery. Bruising and swelling typically disappear after a few weeks.
Results
Results vary individually, with some patients experiencing effects lasting several years or a lifetime after blepharoplasty.
